Shipping is a crucial part of any small e-commerce business.
If you have a physical product, then it doesn't matter what it looks like, you'll need to ship it. However, it also can take up valuable workspace from your business.
So why choose a pegboard to enhance your small business shipping station?
Utilizing wall space is an excellent way to expand your set-up without growing your footprint, and as your business changes and expands, being able to quickly alter the location of components is key! A pegboard gives you the versatility to change locations, items, or product focus. We turned to pegboards and our walls to regain our desk space and we think you might like to as well.
Here are some of the things we put on the IKEA Skadis pegboard to create an organized and efficient shipping station.
1. Thermal Printer Shelf
A thermal printer has been one of our best investments! After printing a single label at a time, grabbing tape for the label, and paying for the ink, we were delighted to save time and money by getting the thermal printer.
We didn’t want to stop the efficiency there, though. Instead of leaving it to take up space on a desk, we used our Thermal Label Printer Shelf and its compatible Label Roll Holder to mount it on the pegboard where we could easily reach up and grab it. It became ergonomic and efficient!
2. Sticker/Label Dispenser
We like to place branding and informational stickers on some of our outgoing products and packages. However, peeling each sticker from the backing and applying it to bag after bag quickly becomes tedious. We keep our most used labels/stickers in little dispensers that hang on our Skadis pegboard. This keeps the rolls off the table, and it is far easier to pluck them off the dispenser than to peel them. Simply pull on the backing and the next sticker is fed out, ready to be placed!
3. Electronic Storage
Every shipping station needs a computer, but when you are tight on space, and want to use the desk for packing, what do you do with the laptop? We chose to hang ours vertically on the pegboard when not in use. With secure laptop hooks for our SKADIS pegboard, we could easily clear the desk while having a safe place for our tools. If you are wondering where you should put your mouse, don’t worry, your mouse can have a home on the pegboard too with the mouse holder!
4. Packing Tape Storage
Anyone who packs something in a box is familiar with the sound of plastic tape being pulled off the roll. We used so much tape that we prioritized several spots for it on our pegboard. By simply using a spool hook , we saved time looking for it by keeping it both visible and in the same spot every time.
5. Tool Storage
Every shipping station requires an assortment of tools: Staplers, scissors, pliers, box cutters, pens, sharpies… The list is endless! We utilize a variety of tool storing devices and bins to keep our most frequently used tools on hand. A 4 Slot Cascade Scissor/Plier Holder keeps those tools visible and handy, and a variety of bins keep our pens and markers well organized.
6. Product Bins
Our product bins are useful organizational tools. From holding the small plastic bags we eventually fill with different pieces to parts of the product itself, these bins keep everything separated neatly and easy to reach.They hold product bags and packaging inserts for us, but we’re sure that they can help you and your needs.
Putting together the small shipping station pegboard was a big help to our small business.
