If you have recently gotten a SKADIS pegboard and have decided to hang it on a wall, you may be faced with the same dilemma we were: Drill a hole for an anchor, or use Command Strips? After doing some self-tested research and solving the best way to hang the board, we chose Command Strips and we think you might like to as well. Here’s why:

1. No Fuss, No Muss

Command Strips are a cleaner option than drilling a hole. It can be a dusty process to drill and time-consuming to clean, especially if you have a toddler who likes to mop the ground with his shirt.

2. Apartments or Dorms

If your landlord or university wants the walls as found or doesn’t want holes in the wall at all, then command strips make a clean, hassle-free, way to hang your pegboard. We used to use them in anticipation of moving out of our apartment when we were renting.

3. Easy Relocation

As current homeowners we do not want to spackle every time we decide to redecorate or rearrange a room. When the Baby was born, we were able to relocate our office to another room without needing to touch-up the walls when we took down the Command Strips, and it was just as easy to put them up in another room.

4. No Tools Required

No tools? No problem. Command Strips do not require any tools and only need one set of hands to put up. If your hobby doesn’t include a drill or you don’t use one often, a Command Strip can save you time, money, and the hassle of using a drill to get the job done.

Command Strips make hanging and removing your Skadis pegboard a breeze. With our Command Strip Mounting Hardware (which includes our recommended Command Strips) it is made even easier! When we first decided to use Command Strips to hang our Command Center, we realized that for an IKEA SKADIS pegboard (or any pegboard) to function properly, there needs to be space behind the panel because pegboard accessories use hooks to clip onto the board and require the space to remain secure. So to prevent our pegboard and ours from becoming a unique wall decoration, read on to learn how to hang your pegboard.

How to Hang Your Pegboard

The obstacle we needed to overcome is that Command Strips require a wide surface to adhere to — like the side of a picture frame — but traditional pegboard spacers are small and cylindrical in nature. Although we have seen people place command strips on the original Skadis mounting hardware, which is a perfect solution for your less frequently used pegboards that do not carry a lot of weight, it does come with some drawbacks since it is not mounted as intended. In many of these cases, people will place the Command Strips in a horizontal position. The issue here is that the strips bear the most weight when in their vertical orientation. If they are aligned horizontally with the bar, as you can see in the picture below they lose some of their strength.

The second common issue with Command Strips is that the original mounting hardware only comes with bumpers on the bottom. Any time the pegboard is pulled from the bottom, it rotates on the top bar. Normally, this is just an annoyance, but when the pegboard is held by Command Strips in their unrated, low load-bearing orientation, it can also become a safety hazard!

Our solution is the Command Strip Mounting Hardware , as seen in the picture below, that we have designed and tested for Command Strips. This mounting hardware provides a smooth, vertical surface for the whole Command Strip to adhere to while providing wall access. Additionally, we offer our mounting compatibility with the original Ikea hardware, allowing you to use what came with your pegboard.

In order to get the best adherence to the wall, you need to apply consistent pressure on the board so that the command strip is secure against the velcro. We have specially designed bumpers on the mounting hardware to make sure that these boards don’t move once they are mounted! We have used this method and this hardware to mount pegboards in our home office, command center and in other areas of the house. For us, redecorating rooms no longer means drilling holes or spackling walls!

We hope that this gives you the confidence to mount your own pegboards and start setting up your command center, craft corner, tool layout, or any other plans you might have for your boards.
