How a Skådis Pegboard Transformed an Artist’s Creative Space

How a Skådis Pegboard Transformed an Artist’s Creative Space

Looking for a way to keep your art supplies organized without cluttering your workspace? Whether you're a casual sketcher or a committed creative, the Skådis pegboard system is a flexible, customizable way to keep everything within reach. Here's how Alex’s sister—an artist who dabbles in many mediums—transformed her space with a simple gift and a little creativity.

How the Skådis Board Became the Perfect Artist Gift

We might not be the most artsy family, but Alex’s sister is. She had been looking for a way to organize her art materials so they didn’t take up too much space on the ground and provided some easy access. For Christmas, we gifted her a Skadis board and some accompanying bins. After that, she had ideas for other pieces to help other artists with their organization.

She likes to use reference photos and often would rather have it on her phone or, if she ever gets one for herself, a tablet for a larger size. This allows her to potentially swipe back and forth between photos and have her music, show, or audiobook close enough to either connect to her earbuds or to play aloud. She doesn’t have a pair of headphones, but she pointed out that the headphone holder for her pegboard would be helpful to have if she got a pair, but meanwhile, a small tray can hold her earbud container.

Organized Mediums

Organizing Different Mediums

She dabbles in a bunch of different mediums, so she appreciated the versatility of the Skadis board since it can shift with her interests. She enjoys using alcohol markers, so she likes being able to have her most frequently used ones on the board with the colors and the numbers out so she can easily see them. She also put up her swatch paper so she could quickly reference the markers she wanted. As she has been gravitating toward graphite, she’s also made use of the pencil holders. She wanted to make sure that the pencils would not slip to the bottom and break her sharpened point, but she also wanted to see the end of the pencil so she could see the softness level. The pencil holders are perfect for that.

The trays and bins are helpful as well to hold her eraser and kneaded erasers so she has easy access. She can keep her pencil sharpener in there as well to keep the pencils sharp and ready for fine lines. The cylindrical containers near it have a few simple pens and highlighters since journaling and writing aren’t her main focus but still something she can do at her art station. It helps round out her art corner with another one of her interests. With some of the cylindrical containers, she can keep her two hobbies in the same location.

Artists set up

Space for Sketchbooks, Works in Progress, and Inspiration

Finally, she has a spot for her sketchbook. She can put it up on the Skadis board to give her desk a clean look, or she can leave it on the desk if she doesn’t feel like closing it, especially if she is working on something graphite. With the shelf, she can put it up easily or just leave it be.

She likes to use the Skadis board as an artistic expression. She can put up different pictures that she likes, or different pieces that she has done that she is proud of, pretty postcards she has purchased and kept from her travels, anything can go on the board to make it her own and a place she wants to use. The first thing she noticed was not the efficiency, it was the different available colors for the containers. Mix and match or all the same, she could even further customize her board.

The Skadis board has helped her feel more organized, more focused, and like she has a place to make her art where she doesn’t need to search for everything. All her materials have a place and she can switch back and forth from different materials. We are still waiting for her to dabble in other art mediums so she can give us more suggestions for different containers to help others organize their hobbies.
